Porcelain Brooches

My hand made porcelain brooches come in various sizes and styles, and also either plain or with gold or platinum borders. The brooches are slip cast from Glacier Porcelain, a super white, pure, translucent porcelain which comes from Ireland. Each one is beveled and polished by hand prior to glazing, so that it feels velvety smooth when held in the hand. I pay particular attention to polishing the edge, giving the piece a look of elegance.

The images on each brooch are enamel transfers. This means that the enamel colours actually fuse into the glaze on the brooch and as such will not fade or scratch off.

Although I do design my own decals, the images featured on these brooches come from the open stock print collection of a small ceramic transfer company based in The Potteries region in the UK.

Some brooches come with luster borders. Luster is a solution of metal in suspension, which is carefully painted with a tiny brush onto the porcelain and subsequently fired in a kiln. The heat of the firing melts the metal onto the porcelain. So gold borders are real 24ct gold, while silver borders are platinum.
