Well, I think you'd be able to tell at first glance that this one didn't work out either. (Although it is a decent clear glaze).

The ingredient I wasn't familiar with in this recipe was colemanite or colmenite. At the time of doing the test, I thought it was the colourant, so I chose to do the line blend with it.

When the results came out the kiln, I thought perhaps there was a difference between the material "colemanite" as was printed on the bucket in the glaze room and "colmenite" as was called for in the book.

But checking with Bill Brown, Wendy Kershaw and the trusty Potters Dictionary of Materials and Techniques by Frank and Janet Hamer, it turned out that the two materials are indeed one and the same, act as a flux, and not a colourant at all... so, it seems there is a mis-print in the copy of Stephen Murfitt's The Glaze Book that I was using (I double checked that I had copied the recipe correctly).
