Studio Diary 2007 - 2008

These albums serve as photographic documentation of the studio work undertaken by me during the course of my Mphil degree at the Australian National University. I regard them as a virtual version of my visual diary.

If you choose 'detail' when viewing full size images you'll be able to see the captions for each image. In many cases, I've documented my processes in detail.

A visual diary is an integral part of any art student's and artist's practice. It allows us to keep track of changing ideas, inspiration and processes. The aim is not only documentation but also growth and development through a facility which allows for reflection and a capacity to learn from mistakes.

The advantage of my diary being virtual is that I can share it with all of you. I welcome comments and feedback from anyone. You can either use the comments facility on my blog - click the link for home in the menu bar above, or you'll find my contact details in the about me section of the website.

The academic year at the Australian National University School of Art, where I study, is divided into two semesters. Semester 1 runs roughly from the end of February to end of June and Semester 2 runs roughly from the start of August to the end of November. Research degrees, such as the Master of Philosophy that I'm enrolled in, can commence at any time throughout the year. I started my degree mid-year, in Semester 2, 2007, on July 14th.

Semester 2, 2007: images from the first semester of my studies, weeks 1 to 25.

Semester 1, 2008: well, here I am, one quarter of my MPhil degree already behind me. In this album you'll find images of work in progress, weeks 26 to 52.
