About Me

Emilka Radlinska, ceramic artist

I’m primarily interested in adapting industrial processes to independent studio practice, in particular slip casting and printing on clay. My materials of choice are porcelain and bone china.

The conceptual basis of my work is the exploration of the idea of real and virtual space, and how these spaces are understood in contemporary culture.

I’m investigating the conceptual parallels between containment as addressed by ceramics theory and practice and the nature of the virtual space occupied by virtual environments such as the internet in general and Second Life in particular. I’m fascinated by the relatively new touch technology used in products such as the i-phone. What does it mean to touch the virtual?

I’m also interested in other virtual spaces – spaces of dreams and daydreams, spaces occupied by the imagination and evoked by literature, visual art and music. This is echoed by the unique relationship between two dimensional and three dimensional spaces in ceramics (surface and volume).

I’m currently based in Glasgow, Scotland
at the Glasgow Ceramics Studio, Wasps Artists’ Studios.
